SGS HK, as the first accredited greenhouse gas (GHG) Verification Body under the Hong Kong Accreditation Service’s (HKAS) Certification Body Accreditation Scheme (HKCAS), recently presented the first ISO 14064-1:2018 statement in Hong Kong to Gammon Construction Limited.

ISO 14064 provides industry and government with a set of tools to develop programs aimed at reducing GHG emissions. ISO 14064-1:2018 verification can help organisations fulfil local and international requirements on sustainability reporting and support tendering and carbon reductions while at the same time as demonstrate environmental credentials.

Sharing from Gammon

Becoming the first company in Hong Kong to have its GHG emissions inventory verified against the latest version of the ISO 14064-1 standard, Gammon said:

“Considerably more comprehensive than the previous standard, the third-party assessment process, done by SGS, considers a much broader range of indirect emissions and their significance, giving us confidence in the accuracy of our data as the basis for considering meaningful carbon reductions. It also brings our accounting processes in line with the global best practice of increasing visibility of indirect emissions, particularly within supply chains, and demonstrates our expertise in this area.

Both the verification process and the full disclosure found within our sustainability report - which are in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative Standards - form an important part of our mission to build for a better quality of life and living environment in a safe and sustainable way. As the adage goes, 'You can't manage what you don't measure!’”
