Choking Hazard Continues to Dominate in RAPEX Recalls
Toys are a fun and important part of every child's development. But each year, many kids are treated in hospital emergency departments for toy-related injuries. Choking is a risk for kids ages 3 or younger, because they tend to put objects in their mouths.
So far in January, there are over 50 violations reported in the European Union. Of these violations, 28 are related to choking due to small parts being easily detached from the toy. A child may put the it into their mouths and choke on it.
Aside from physical and mechanical safety standards laid out in EN 71-1, SGS also offers Product safety or Risk Assessment programs which can identify potential hazards and provide solutions early in the product life cycle to prevent products becoming stalled in production or recalled once they are released onto the market. During risk assessments for toys, possible hazards and potential exposure are identified and analyzed. helping businesses give their products a competitive edge by demonstrating their durability, stability and safety to customers.
