Recently, the EU's AskREACH project has launched a mobile APP, Scan4Chem, on major application platforms for EU consumers to download.  Users can use it to check the SVHC content in most consumer products, including electronics, in the market.  The purpose of this APP is to increase the awareness of hazardous substances present in each product and help them with making purchase decisions.

The APP is based on the AskREACH project, a joint collaboration launched by Germany with 20 project partners from 13 EU member states, which will establish a database containing SVHC information, similar to the SCIP database established by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

This database is also used to receive information submitted by enterprises regarding SVHC content in their products.  If this information is unavailable, the APP would send a request to respective suppliers automatically.  AskREACH suggests companies to submit product information in advance so that EU consumers could access this information more easily.

The REACH regulation stipulates that if an article contains any SVHC in concentration above 0.1% (w/w), all companies manufacturing or importing articles into the European Union shall fulfil the obligations of communication and notification. Suppliers of the article must provide sufficient information on request to consumers within 45 days of the receipt of this request.

As the global leader in testing, certification and inspection, SGS can provide enterprises with an one-stop solution for REACH SVHC, effectively assisting you to actively respond to SVHC requirements and consumer inquiries!
