Hong Kong's Safety Requirements for Lighters
Hong Kong’s Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) has launched a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) lighters listing scheme since 2011, requiring importers and local manufacturers of LPG lighters to apply for listing of their PG lighters that are for sale and use in Hong Kong. The aim of the scheme is to promote self-regulation by the trade regarding the quality and safety standards of their LPG lighters.
Each importer or local manufacturer shall apply for listing of each model of their LPG lighters that are intended to be imported into or manufactured in Hong Kong by supplying a HOKLAS or equivalent endorsed test report certifying that their product is in compliance with the recognized safety standard.
SGS Hong Kong has the capability to conduct testing services in accordance to standards listed by EMSD.
