Statistic on Recalled Cosmetic Product from Jan to Apr 2016
RAPEX RECALL PLATFORM
RAPEX is an information platform between EU national authorities and the European Commission on dangerous product found on the market.
During January and April of Year 2016, there are in total 32 recalled cosmetic products.
Among all, 75% of the recalled cosmetic products were associated with chemical risk. Over 20% were found to have excessive microbial content. The remaining 3% of the recalled cosmetic products were alerted to have choking risk.
NO. OF RECALLED COSMETIC PRODUCTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FOLLOWING RISK:
- Choking risk: 1 (3%)
- Microbiological risk: 7 (22%)
- Chemical risk: 24 (75%)
Various types of cosmetic products, including make-up product, skin care product, body/hair cleansing product, were recalled due to excessive level of detected bacteria and/or mold.
The product design put a risk of making confusion the product with a real foodstuff.
MAKE UP AND SKIN CARE PRODUCT
Excessive amount of Methylisothiazolinone and presence of long chain parabens (Isopropylparabens and Isobutylparaben) were alerted in make-up and skin care products.
SKIN LIGHTENING PRODUCT
Hydroquinone is always detected in skin lightening product. Hydroquinone is not allowed to be used in cosmetic product except artificial nail systems.
TEETH WHITEHING PRODUCTS
Teeth whitening products were frequently recalled and found detected level of Sodium perborate and excessive amount of hydrogen peroxide
