Food contact materials and articles importing to China shall fulfill the mandatory requirements laid down in GB standards.

The tests that are covered in the GB standards commonly involve:

  • Color migration
  • Evaporation residues
  • Monomers migration, e.g. formaldehyde

GB 9685 is the standard on requirement of additives to be used in food contact materials.

In April 2013, the National Health and Family Planning Commission of People’s Republic of China (NHFPC) notice 2013-5 has been updated. This list contacts 258 new additives for food containers and packaging meterials, including their name, application scope and other restrictive requirements.
