What is Patch Test?

Human patch test is carried out on human panelists to study the primary skin irritation response of testing samples. It is suitable for evaluating the irritation potential of cosmetic products at formula development stage to ensure product safety, and useful in supporting claims like “Dematologically Tested”, “Mild to skin” etc. for marketing or for registration purpose.

Specific panel with particular gender, age, race or skin type can be chosen to narrow down the target group which advance the reliability of results for targeted customers and design of marketing plan.

How is Patch Test done?

Samples are applied onto the back of recruited panelists for a specified period of time, usually for 48 or 72 hours. After removal of samples, level of erythema (redness), edema (swelling), fissure and scaling are observed by trained expert and dermatologist. Scores are given to evaluate the skin irritation response.
