US CPSC Accepted SGS HK to Test for Lead Content in Children s Metal Jewellery
SGS Hong Kong is pleased to announce that we have been accepted as an accredited laboratory to test children’s metal jewellery products to the ban on lead content using CPSC-CH-E1001-08 ‘Standard Operating Procedure for Determining Total Lead (Pb) in Children Metal Products (Including Children Metal Jewelry)’ under US Public Law 110-314 ‘Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA).
On 14 August, 2008, President George W Bush signed a landmark legislation ‘HR 4040’ into law. The new law mandates a phased-in ban on lead in children’s products to ensure products are safe by requiring lead levels to be reduced to 100 ppm for substrates over a 3-year period and 90 ppm for paints / similar surface coating materials from 14 August 2009. Third party testing is required to support certification of compliance to certain rules for children’s products. A list of scope accepted by CPSC is summarized in Table 1.
