April 25-27, SGS successfully hosted IECQ Hazardous Substance Process Management Symposium 2007 in Tianjin, Shanghai and Shenzhen. Nearly 400 electrical & electronic enterprises and more than 10 industry associations from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong attended the symposium. National media CCTV and over 20 media track-reported the event.
Mr Stanley H. Salot Jr., President of the Electronic Components Certification Board (ECCB), gave a speech on “IECQ HSPM QC080000 Trend Internationally” with detailed explanation on hazardous substances in consumer electric and electronic products; regulations implemented in EU, Asia Pacific and Americas; and how IECQ HSPM QC080000, the worldwide recoginized standard help the manufacturers to minimize the risk. Mr. Huang Jianzhong and Lei Wen from the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) presented  China RoHS regulation, and  "step by step" approach to help Chinese manufacturers to comply with China RoHS which is different from RoHS in EU. Mr. Chris Yau (SGS global IECQ product manager) shared how SGS act in the global promotion of IECQ HSPM QC080000 standards and valuable experience on implementing IECQ HSPM QC080000. Representatives from SMIC, Sony, Panasonic, Midea and other famous electrical and electronic enterprises shared views on management of control hazardous substances.
To date, 334 IECQ HSPM QC 080000 certificates have been issued, and SGS has issue 171 certificates, achieving 51% of global market share. SGS has been approved by the Electronic Component Certification Board (ECCB) as the first certification body to extend its capability to conduct IECQ HSPM audits. SGS can now audit IECQ against three Directives: RoHS, Battery Directive and the Packaging Directive.
In May, SGS China launched the Service Month Promotion for electrical & electronic industry. A series of promotion programs and seminars will be held in major cities in China. In the rest of the year SGS will continue its efforts to promote the global “green” production, update international standard development, and help more Chinese enterprises to enter global market.
