Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) has announced earlier that it would put forward a set of “Revised Procedures” (The Scheme) in a concerted drive to underpin the recognition and prevalence of ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System among the food processors and proprietors.
FEHD has also proposed to the proprietors in the industry that under the conditions of i) entire coverage of ISO 22000 Management System and ii) valid proof of ISO 22000 Certificate issued by recognized certification bodies, could they be eligible for the participation of “The Scheme”, who could then apply for the exemption from the Demerit Point System.  Further details are due to be announced at a later stage.
SGS was accredited by the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS) and United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) as the accreditation body of ISO 22000 Management System.  Catering for diversified business needs, SGS has also initiated a cost-effective and streamlined “upgrade scheme” for HACCP-certified clients, in parallel with various ISO 22000 and food safety training courses of various levels.
ISO 22000 is an international certification standard that defines the requirements of food safety management system. It can be used by all organizations, in the entire supply chain to strengthen the process control - from farmers to food services, processing, transportation, storage, retails and packaging.
ISO 22000 creates a harmonized safety standard which is accepted worldwide. By integrating multiple principals, methodologies and applications, ISO 22000 is easier to understand, apply and recognize. That makes it more efficient to provide interactive communication across the supply chain and effective as an entry-to-market tool than the combinations of various national standards previously.
