Since the European Union issued Directive 2011/65/EU on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) (EU RoHS) in 2003, which has brought the globalization effect of ’RoHS’, many countries such as China, America, Japan, Korea, etc., have successively issued ‘RoHS-like’ regulations. The RoHS requirements in different countries vary mainly in the categories of regulated EEEs, restricted substances, exemptions, and conformity assessment methods.

On Jul. 9, 2021, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) published the Technical Regulation for Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (SASO RoHS). Six categories of EEEs under this regulation must meet relevant requirements before entering the Saudi Market. This Technical Regulation was originally scheduled to take effect on Jan. 5, 2022.

With reference to the meeting of The Conformity Steering Committee No. (17-21) held on Dec. 5, 2021, SASO decided to postpone the implementation of the Technical Regulation for Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (SASO RoHS) for a period of six months, after which the implementation will be carried out in stages.  Currently, the latest SASO RoHS requirements are summarized as follows:
