Major Changes and Impacts
- ENERGY STAR® certification now is applicable to luminaires with personal device charging function, such as desk lights that use a USB charger or AC outlet
- External power supplies (EPS) that enable personal device charging functionality must meet Level VI performance requirements or higher, under the International Efficiency Marking Protocol
- Luminaires Specification V2.2 also clarifies the EPA’s decision that luminaires incorporating integral battery packs intended solely for emergency operation are eligible for ENERGY STAR® certification. They do not need any additional requirements and, therefore, testing is conducted under normal conditions and to the normal voltage
- The new version also allows a product to be entered for appraisal for more than one type of luminaire certification standard at the same time which decreases work burden and certification fees for manufacturers
