Malaysia Implements New Requirements to MEPS Regulation
A statutory body established under the Energy Commission Act 2001, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) is responsible for regulating the energy sector, specifically the electricity and piped gas supply industries in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah.
Fully operational on January 1, 2002, ST took over the role of the Department of Electricity and Gas Supply, which was dissolved on the same date. The Commission’s responsibilities are enshrined by the Energy Commission Act 2001
On 1 Mar 2018, a circular was issued under the reference number ST/IP/PPTKP/DSM/13/25/1 JLD2(25): Notis Makluman Tarikh Pelaksanaan Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) Bagi Kelengkapan Elektrik – Peti Sejuk, Penghawa Dingin dan Mesin Basuh (see here for the circular). The purpose is to confirm the implementation dates of the Energy efficiency regulation, MEPS, for Air Conditioner, Washing Machine and Refrigerator.

After the implementation dates, a copy of the MEPS report and corresponding CB certificate and report that follows the Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) Guidelines is required when applying for a Certificate of Approval (CoA), which is mandatory when manufacturing / import / sales of such product
