IEC 62368-1 will be used to replace the two most influential standards of the current electronics industry-the safety standard for audio and video products IEC 60065 and the IEC 60950-1 for information technology equipment safety standards. At present, IEC 62368-1's work has made breakthrough progress. The first edition of IEC 62368-1 was published in Jan 2010, and the second edition was published in Feb 2014.

EN 62368-1 was officially published in August 2014 and its mandatory date in the EU is 20 Dec, 2020. In addition, the United States and Canada have developed harmonized standards UL/CSA 62368-1:2014 and its enforcement time is 20 Jun, 2019. During the transition period, there will be IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60065, IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60950-1 and IEC/EN/UL/CSA 62368-1, all in parallel use.  In order to help manufacturers to complete the smooth transition of the old and new standards, IECEE also issued a common report template for the IEC 60065, IEC 60950-1 and IEC 62368-1, that is, if required, a product can apply for multiple standards of certification at the same time.
