SGS was invited to be the community partner in the Natural Works 2017
With rapid urban development in recent years, the importance of environmental protection has often been overlooked and irreversible damage has been inflicted on Mother Nature. There are more companies taking action on this issue and implementing strategies to meet ISO 14001:2015 standards. In addition to the promotion of nature conservation in terms of business practices, we should also instill awareness of environmental protection among the younger generation.
Upon invitation by The Nature Conservancy, SGS attended the Nature Works Hong Kong (NWHK) Environmental Innovation and Leadership camp with speaker. Mr. Tahoe Chow, Senior Technical Service Executive, representing SGS to share his views on Environmental Management Systems. Mr. Chow discussed and interacted with the students on how they should spearhead environmental programmes and ideas in their schools. He introduced the concept and showed them how EMS is applied in real life.
The Nature Conservancy is a leading international environmental organization established in 1951, that protects the lands and waters on which all life depends. The camp is under Nature Works Hong Kong (NWHK) Environmental Innovation and Leadership program, where students aged 13 – 17 develop entrepreneurship and leadership skills by creating real-world environmental conservation initiatives for their school communities.
The students were very engaged and raised many questions during the talk. They found Mr. Chow’s talk very useful to their environmental conservation projects as it gave them a more in-depth understanding of Environmental Management Systems and associated environmental topics. After the talk, Mr. Chow also gave specific groups of students advice on their proposals and initiatives, giving more insights to the students and pointing out various key considerations in implementing programmes in waste management, biodiversity conservation and energy conservation.
