Taiwan BSMI New RoHS Requirement for Certain Electronic Products
On 30th July 2013, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) of Taiwan published standard “CNS 15663 Guidance to reduction of the restricted chemical substances in electrical and electronic equipments (EEE)” which sets maximum concentration values (MCVs) of 6 hazardous substances in 9 types of EEE. The MCVs are the same as those under EU RoHS and the standard is also known as Taiwan RoHS.
Under Taiwan RoHS standard, corporations have to check the content of hazardous substances according to CNS 15050 or IEC 62321 methods. Moreover, proper labeling must be made on the body, packages, stickers, or the instruction manuals.
On 29th December 2015, BSMI issued a notice to include Taiwan RoHS marking requirement in the inspection standard for 6 types of EEE. The wording “RoHS” has to be included in CI MARK of these products. After that, BSMI gradually expands the product scopes that require Taiwan RoHS (Table 1).

When BSMI requests for sampling, corporations must submit related documentations (such as test report, quality control document, etc.) within 28 working days. These documentations must be issued by a laboratory accredited under ISO 17025 and all tests must be conducted in accordance to IEC 62321, CNS 15050 or equivalent standards.
