SGS Awarded COL "Sustainable Energy Efficient Data-Centre (SEED)"
COL Limited, an IT services subsidiary of Wharf T&T and the leading IT services provider in Hong Kong, is awarded “Industrial Leader” level of the Sustainable Energy Efficient Data-center (SEED) verification program for its Cable TV Tower data centre. COL brings environmental conservation to the fore through the SEED verification program runs alongside with the existing ISO 14001 Environment Management, ISO 20000 IT Services Management and ISO 27001 Information Security Management.
COL is one of the leading IT services companies in Hong Kong. Its newest data centre, located at 18/F Cable TV Tower, has been implementing green measures since its design stage in Q4 2014. After a rigorous on-site assessment in Dec 2015, the audit team is satisfied with the effort COL put in and agreed to award COL with SEED “Industrial Leader” level, the second highest level in the program.
The award recognizes COL’s commitment to “green” and sustainable data centre operations. With SEED verification of the Cable TV Tower data centre, it is the best way for COL to demonstrate their facilities and operation are benchmarked to world-class standards. We wish COL to continue its role as pioneer of the green IT movement.
SGS aims to promote “green” in the data centre industry. In 2013, it launched the SEED verification program. SEED is a SGS proprietary program, culminating years of research and expertise in data centre facility management. The audit scheme references many authoritative industrial standards and best practices and covers four areas: build-out & design, facilities infrastructure, ICT Infrastructure, operation management. The scheme covers requirements such as cooling strategies for aisle configuration & supply air control, opportunities for utilizing waste heat & renewable energy, optimization of air flow management, selection of energy-efficient equipment, and adoption of operational good-practices, etc.
