SGS Hong Kong to Safeguard the Water Quality in Supply Systems
Lead is a natural occurring heavy metal found in common application such as solder, pigments, paints, varnishes, ceramics and cosmetics that can enter the body through food, breathing, skin. Excessive absorption of lead and its compounds may lead to renal dysfunction, reproductive and nervous system damage.
Legionellosis is an infectious disease caused by the Legionella pneumophila. This bacterium can survive in various water environments and can be contracted through contaminated water droplets and mist. Those who are infected can experience fever and muscle pain, and in severe cases, pneumonia.
In the midst of the excessive lead content found in the water supply of several housing estates, the Water Supplies Department had released a circular newsletter to all licensed plumbers and associations in regards to restriction on using lead-containing welding materials as well as chemical contents in internal water supply systems.
SGS can offer assessment programs for water quality plus various chemical testing for soldering materials and industrial building materials to ensure that the problem can be found as soon as possible.
