VOC and other chemical requirement in paints in Hong Kong
Since 1 April 2007, Hong Kong had implemented a control on Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) content for various products sold and used in local market which include paints, printing inks, adhesives and other consumer products by Hong Kong Law CAP 311W under “Chapter 311, Air Pollution Control Ordinance”.
Among all, architectural paints and coatings are of growing concern since such paints are used to furnish our homes and workplaces which we have constant interaction on a daily basis.
Currently, there are 51 types of architectural paints and coatings that are regulated for VOC content under Hong Kong Law including roof coating, floor coating and clear brushing lacquer.
With the increasing public awareness on chemical and environmental safety, reducing toxic chemicals in paints in addition to the regulated VOC content is often requested when building up brand image on social responsibility and sustainability.
SGS Hong Kong can provide comprehensive testing packages for highly concerned tests for paints to be sold in the Hong Kong market such as:
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC)
- Formaldehyde Content
- Chlorinated Solvents
- Heavy Metals
