REACH Restricts Chromium VI In Leather Parts of Electrical Products
Regulation (EC) No 301/2014 was published on 26 March 2014 to expand the restriction scope of chromium VI compounds under REACH Annex XVII. Chromium VI content in articles containing leather parts coming into contact with the skin would be restricted. The expanded scope will be in effect on 1 May 2015.
According to the regulation, articles containing leather parts coming into contact with the skin shall not be placed on the EU market where any of these leather parts contains chromium VI in concentration equal to or greater than 3 mg/kg (0.0003% by weight) of the total dry weight of that leather part. The restriction scope covers leather pad in headphones, leather strap in watches, leather handles of electrical products, etc (Table 1).
