Under EU REACH regulation, testing on nickel release is required for metal components that are in direct and prolonged contact with skin. The common examples indicated in the regulation are jewelries, wrist-watches, and certain components such as rivets, zippers and tighteners used in garments.

Moreover, other items which are foreseen to have direct and prolonged contact with human skin also need to comply with the requirement. These items include writing instruments such as pens and pencils.

SGS provides the most comprehensive one-stop quality assurance solution to our clients for compliance to the food contact regulations all around the world.
