SGS Becomes IKEA's First Third-Party Certifier in China and Asia
In November 2009, SGS Hong Kong Ltd was accredited by IKEA as the first testing laboratory with Third Party Certifier (TPC) status for the testing of formaldehyde in composite wood in China and Asia.
SGS will assist IKEA’s vendors in ensuring that wood products for shipping to the international market are in compliance with worldwide formaldehyde regulations.
Prior to this achievement, SGS had also earned Third-Party Certifier (TPC) status from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for the verification of composite wood products to ensure compliance with formaldehyde emission standards set forth in the California State Airborne Toxic Control Measure (ATCM).
As IKEA’s Third-Party Certifier (TPC), SGS will: Offer CARB certification services to mills that supply boards to IKEA and its suppliers; Offer testing services to IKEA’s mills and suppliers to ensure compliance with ASTM E1333, ASTM D6007, EN 717-2 and EN 120; Verify the accuracy of emission testing procedures and the facilities used by composite wood product manufacturers in conducting formaldehyde emission tests; Monitor manufacturers’ quality assurance programs; and Provide independent audits and inspections.
