Despite the low count in industrial accident cases in Hong Kong (as of September 2009) in comparison to 2008, the loss of lives from a recent industrial accident has again raised public concern on occupational health and safety management in the workplace.
The OHSAS 18001 standard, which takes into careful consideration accident prevention, risk reduction and the well-being of employees, intends to provide organizations with the framework for an effective Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System. Through the “Plan – Do – Check – Act” (PDCA) management model, organizations are able to manage the occupational health and safety issues they encounter in their business activities.
