Hair Analysis for Abused Drugs
Different samples (such as hair, urine and blood) can be used for drug screening. In the past, analysis on urine sample is a common way for drug screening, but hair analysis appears to be more accurate and sensitive with advanced analytical instruments.
Hair retains drug components for longer periods, thus drug abused can be detected in hair for weeks or even months compared to the 2 to 3 days in blood or urine.
Test parameters for hair analysis:
I. Commonly Abused Drugs: Amphetamines Opiates MDMA (3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, or "Ecstasy") Ketamine Cannabis Benzodiazepines, and others II. Heavy Metals: People may come into contact with heavy metals in industrial work, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and through accidental ingestion of contaminated products (e.g. mercury poisoning from eating canned tuna). Heavy metals in the body may accumulate in hair, which has been advocated to be a valuable specimen for diagnosing heavy metal poisoning.
Mercury Lead Arsenic Cadmium, and others SGS offers hair analysis on different kinds of toxic substances. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for details.
