Since 1990, Myanmar’s GDP per capita growth has been among the fastest in the world, with an averaged 8.85 percent from 1994 until 2016, reaching an all-time high of 13.84 percent in 2003 and a record low of 3.60 percent in 2008. Despite uncertainties in the global environment, Myanmar’s economy remains resilient.
The fast moving economic and industrial development of Myanmar has raised the awareness in terms of ethical issues and environmental impact. Responsibility to the workers, community, consumers and environment must be taken into the consideration throughout the supply chain management. To strive for CSR enhancement, the Government of Myanmar proactively anticipates in the reform of union law or amendment of labor code. Environment has become a concern for Myanmar to devote a great effort for mitigating the impact from fast growing manufacturing industry.

Speaker Information
Ms. Janet Cheng Manager of Consumer & Retail Division, SGS Myanmar and SGS Cambodia
Janet Cheng obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Environmental Management (Lancaster University, UK), Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree (University of London, UK) and a Master degree in Christian Study in Christian Ministry Institute, Hong Kong. She has more than 15 years of experience in professional auditing, training and consulting with focuses on social compliance, environmental monitoring and sustainability, conducting over 300 social and environmental audits in countries covering Hong Kong, China, Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, India and Vietnam, with expertise on labour law interpretation and environmental auditing. Janet has joined SGS Myanmar in 2016, as Consumer & Retail Division Manager, has been strategically establishing and overseeing consumer product testing, inspection, audit business, actively opened and penetrated the local market with her professional knowledge and experience.
